For this years TY play, Ms. Catherine Conway and a group of talented TY students, undertook the huge challenge of writing and performing an original play. The students were inspired by numerous fairy tales and unable to decide on one, came up with the fantastic idea to merge them all into one, then came ‘Twisted’. To give their production a unique twist, and to keep the audience up to speed in a comical way, they starred ‘ 2 aul wans’ as narrators, played excellently by Ciara Needham and Ava-Lynne Kane. The show combined the characters and story lines from fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. There was also an unexpected plot twist starring the evil witch Maleficent who cast a spell on the fairy tale characters, removing their memories and placing them in an alternate world, where they were normal teenagers. The show had an unexpected ending, where unlike most productions it was indeed the Irish Mammy who was the hero, Ms. Sarah Lyons stole the show!
The show was an enjoyable experience for all both on and off stage and couldn't be possible without both parties and all the teachers who helped with this project.
The funds raised from the play are going to a very worthy cause, ‘ Jumping for Jess’. This is a project planned by a Sacred Heart student, Clodagh Campion, who will be doing a skydive later this year to raise funds for Autism Ireland and will also be donating funds directly to our school to update equipment in the school to make life easier for Jess and other students with autism.
The students performed the play for the school on Wednesday and for the public on Thursday evening. The play was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Well done TYs!
