On our first day we took a trip up to Templemore Garda college. We spent the day there and were shown around by some members of the force. We got to see some of the classes, the library , the gym , the swimming pool and the canteen. We had a talk about the college (including how much points you need to achieve in the Leaving Certificate to get into the college and what you do whilst being there).
On our second day we took a trip up to Dublin to the court and to Westmanstown. We walked around the court and sat through some of the cases. At Westmandstown we received a talk with the guards from different units (like the dog unit , the mountain unit , the horse unit and the water unit). After we talked with them we then went outside and where shown demonstrations of what the dogs (k9) could do in situations , such as a person that is armed and a person that is hiding.
On our third and last day we had a talk in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport about underage drinking and we also talked about the different stages of being arrested. We then had a man come in that was part of RSA and he talked about road safety. We also got to look and some of the guards equipment which was brought in by Garda Martin Kelly.
Overall this trip was very useful/ interesting and we all had a wonderful time. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the members of An Garda Siochana who worked with us (in particular Martin Kelly , Lioness Fahy, Mick and Kieran McGinty) for an amazing experience in Tipperary, Mayo and Dublin.
